We have a ton of awesome events that we do each week here at Game State spread across three separate gaming areas, the Battlefield, the Open Gaming Area, and the Highground! When we schedule special events like tournaments, they will be listed at the top of this page and for the rest of what we do, those events are listed below by the day of the week. We have our standard Weekly Events which are further down the page, and we also have our list of special events that appear as one-shot events like tournaments or are held only monthly like our Board Game Night with the Lakes Area Board Gamers on the first Saturday of the Month. We still encourage you to check out the events in the calendar or on our Facebook Events Slate.

Upcoming Events
We have a number of events that are coming up that fall outside of our normal schedule or supersede regular scheduled events that we have on the calendar. We’ll make sure this list stays updated (bare with us now as we’re getting our Events coordinated between the store, Facebook, and the website) and you can always see what’s happening here at Game State!

Monday
For the time being, we are closed on Mondays!
Tuesday
Tuesdays are days that feature a lot of Kevin’s gaming roots: Dungeons and Dragons. Our tables are your tables and we hope to see you and your gaming group here playing D&D or participating in any of our other events!
Dungeons and Dragons – Adventure Day
Adventure Day is for our players who are running through pre-written adventures, campaign books, and other D&D source material from Wizards of the Coast, or that has been published by our gamers here at Game State! If you’re looking for a something fresh to run, we hope you’ll check out our shelves, but if you’re looking for something different, we advise that you check out the Dungeon Master’s Guild at Drivethru RPG!
Dungeons and Dragons for Beginners
New to Dungeons and Dragons? We have just the event for you on Tuesday Nights! Come on in and get acquainted with the granddaddy of all roleplaying systems! It doesn’t matter if you’re 12 or 120, we’ll walk you through character creation and even a few beginner adventures over a couple of weeks. This is a free night and we welcome you to come learn how to play and figure out if you want to be a player or run your own adventures!
Wednesday
Wednesdays have a lot going on here at Game State from potentially getting freight in the door to our regular event schedule!
Role Playing Night
Your role playing sessions are welcome here any night of the week, but Wednesdays we set aside the Hangar Bay and part of the Battlefield for you to come in! Dungeons and Dragons games are more than welcome, but we want to celebrate games of all types; there’s over 4000 role playing game publishers in the world, and we want to support all of their work! We invite you to bring your game in and use our tables to tell your stories! New players and groups are always welcome at Game State
Star Wars Legion
Star Wars Legion brings yet another Table top war game to our schedule! Represent your favored faction and play Clones, Separatists, Rebels, Bounty Hunters, or the Empire as you are pitted against other opponents! Our Wednesday Night Games are 500 points to make sure we get a good game or two in before close, so bring your army or show up to watch and learn this amazing game that utilizes characters and squads from the Star Wars Universe! We start at 6:30 and hope to see you here!
Thursday
Thursdays are one of our busiest nights here at Game State with the tables being used for Pokemon, Star Wars X-wing, Ladies’ Night, as well as a number of casual gamers that hit the tables to
Star Wars X-wing
X-wing is one of the events we’ve hosted the longest in the store aside from Magic! Since opening in 2014, we have had some fantastic players come out of the store for this awesome table top war game that is akin to battle chess with ship, characters, and upgrades from the Star Wars Universe! Fly your fleet of 2-to-9 ships on the 3 foot by 3 foot battle space to out manuever, out fox, and out shoot your way to victory! We start at 6:30 and the event is free! New players are always welcome!
Pokemon Night
Whether you’re a player of the card game or of the electronic Pokemon Go!, we invite you to come and spend the evening in our Battlefield! Bring your best deck to the table to challenge other trainers in head-to-head card games or bring your best Pokemon to challenge our gym or other trainers in Pokemon Go! Make friends with other trainers, trade pokemon, and relax and have a nice evening! We start up at about 6pm so don’t be shy, come on in!
Ladies’ Night
Headed up by Susan, Ladies’ Night happens at the tables in the front windows and is a way for you to come in and unwind from the start of your week. Whether there’s one group playing or several, Susan will make sure you stay entertained by using one of the games that is brought in from a private game library or play one of the games in Game State’s public game library. A good time is had by all and ladies of all ages are invited to join us at 6:30 and stay until we close the shop!
Friday
Fridays are the start of the weekend for most of us, especially here at Game State! With the potential for more freight arriving and us staying open until midnight, it’s a great day to be here in the shop!
Friday Night Magic
It’s Friday Night! Typically Friday Night Magic here at Game State means it’s draft night and for many years we have been considered one of the highest rated shops for Draft in the Wizards Play Network! Come on in, draft with us; you don’t need to bring anything other than…you! Pick up some sleeves, use our basic lands, and we’ll even supply the life-pads! See what makes us one of the highest rated shops in the world! Draft starts at 7pm and usually wraps up just after 10, and some nights an extra draft might fire at 10:30pm!
Friday Night Fire Fight
Join us in the Highground for Warhammer 40k, Horus Heresy, or Battletech battles! Prepare to play 1000,1500, or 2000 points for Warhammer 40k or Horus Heresy, or 3000 to 8000 Battle Value for Battletech. Prepare to face multiple armies and possibly multiple battlefields as you fight through the night! Games are casual and challengers are plentiful, and we invite you to our fully furnished game tables and to use our expansive scenery collection! We typically start at about 6pm and go until we’re done!
Board Game Night
Enjoy the space with our dedicated group of gamers that love board games of all stripes! Bring in your favorite game to share, try a new game, join a new game group, or come in to just enjoy the space. Any time we are open we love to share our tables, but on Friday Night, we invite you to join us for a special night. Play a game out of the game library, hang out at the front tables and enjoy the scenes of beautiful downtown Spencer while throwing down on a game in a nice, relaxed atmosphere!
Saturday
Saturdays have a few events scheduled each week, but typically we keep the schedule open for tournaments, special events, and for casual gaming! We stay open until midnight on Saturdays and we like to stay busy from open to close!
Magic: Pioneer
Pioneer is a format that goes back to the Return to Ravnica/Gatecrash block and uses every standard-release set (no Masters sets, no Commander specific cards, no Un-sets, etc) from those sets until now! This rising star of formats has taken the Midwest by storm and we have a great group of players here in the shop as well! Join us Saturday afternoons in the Battlefield to square off, learn the game, bring in your favorite deck, or borrow one from someone to play and see if you love this format as much as we do!
Magic: Commander Night
Bring your most competitive, most annoying, or most meme-fueled deck to the party and play with the others in our fantastic Commander community! Some nights we keep it casual, others are more competitive, but there’s always someone here to play! Come in, learn, show off, but no matter what, have fun in the Battlefield with your fellow Magic players! If you don’t have a Commander Deck, fear not, we always have pre-constructed decks available to buy and there’s usually a deck or two floating around to borrow!
Sunday
Sundays are another very relaxed day here in the store and while our tables are usually open for your Dungeons and Dragons group in the Hangar Bay or your Warhammer games up in the Highground, sometimes Sundays are also used for special events and tournaments. Sometimes these tournaments are carry-over from the previous day’s events!
Magic: Sunday Modern
Modern is one of the most-played formats in the game of Magic: the Gathering, especially at the competitive level. Featuring a card set that goes back to 2002, this block of cards has over two decades of card sets to utilize to build your deck. There is an entry fee for the event, but we give out some prize support at the end, usually in the form of prize packs from a Masters set. Come on in and enjoy, practice for tournaments, tool your deck, craft something new, and have a great afternoon!
